Abstract:
【Objective】 This study aims to clarify the overall situation of the potato processing industry in Xinjiang, identify existing gaps and shortcomings, and propose recommendations and strategies to better promote the development of the potato industry in Xinjiang.
【Methods】 Through methods such as reviewing documents, conducting telephone interviews, and conducting on-site field research, relevant data was collected and summarised to analyse the development of the potato processing industry in Xinjiang. The analysis focused on identifying gaps and shortcomings in the processing industry and proposed corresponding countermeasures and recommendations.
【Results】 The potato processing industry in Xinjiang has seen some development in recent years, with the area under cultivation for processing-type potatoes increasing year by year, high yields, good quality, and high levels of mechanisation. However, there is a lack of high-quality processing-type varieties, seed potatoes are insufficient and lack regulation, and planting costs are rising year by year, with significant price fluctuations between years. The number of processing enterprises has also been increasing, but the overall number of processing enterprises remains small in scale and is primarily concentrated in Northern Xinjiang.Processing products are relatively monotonous, processing cycles are highly concentrated, and awareness of potato brand development is weak.
【Conclusion】 The potato processing industry in Xinjiang has development potential supported by its planting foundation and regional policy support, but it must overcome bottlenecks in varieties, technology, and brand development.Recommendations include strengthening the improvement and innovation of processing-type potato varieties; strictly controlling seed potato quality and promoting the use of qualified seed potatoes; exploring deep processing areas and developing new productive forces; strengthening brand building; deepening regional cooperation and expanding market space.
