Abstract:
【Objective】 To accurately identify the deep-seated problems and prominent contradictions constraining the current development of the corn industry in Northern Xinjiang, and to propose targeted solutions and suggestions, aiming to provide decision-making services for the healthy and sustainable development of Xinjiang's corn industry.
【Methods】 Through visits and discussions with managers, producers, and technical personnel across various segments of the corn industry chain—including agricultural and rural affairs bureaus, agricultural technology extension centers, cooperatives, enterprises, and large-scale growers in various prefectures of Northern Xinjiang—the problems faced at each stage of the whole industrial chain were thoroughly examined and categorized.
【Results】 After decades of development, Xinjiang's corn industry has formed an industrial chain encompassing seed production safety, field cultivation, harvesting and drying, primary and deep processing, and sales. This has, to a certain extent, effectively supported the continuous advancement of Xinjiang's corn industry. However, it is also crucial to recognize that numerous constraining problems and hidden challenges requiring urgent resolution still exist during the industry's development. These are mainly manifested as: Under the context of food security, policy mechanisms coordinating planned cultivation with market sales are still inadequate; the concepts of high-yield initiatives and large-scale yield improvement need further updating; the localized application of new varieties and efficient production technologies needs strengthening; the corn industrial chain is too short and its structure insufficiently optimized, leading to low conversion capacity for commercial corn in the upstream sector, and a scarcity of deep-processed corn products and independent brands.
【Conclusion】 Current efforts should focus on key areas such as corn variety selection and the implementation of critical technologies to unlock production potential. In particular, improving cultivated land quality should be prioritized as a key aspect of high-quality development, emphasizing the application of techniques like plastic-free cultivation and no-till farming.Enhancing the market competitiveness of corn production should be achieved through cost reduction, efficiency gains, and quality improvement.Further optimization of the industrial structure, enhancement of corn deep-processing capabilities, and brand building are necessary.Multi-dimensional efforts are required to promote the high-quality and sustainable development of corn production in Northern Xinjiang.
