Objective To explore the research status and development trend of donkey milk in China.
Methods The publications with the theme "donkey milk" were searched and the relevant literature were exported from the China Knowledge Network (CNKI) database from 2006 to 2024. Trends in the number of publications were plotted based on the resulting literature, and a knowledge map of the donkey milk research field was developed based on CiteSpace and VOSviewer.
Results A total of 153 papers were included. The annual publication volume of donkey milk showed a general trend of growth, and the annual publication volume was the highest in 2021, reaching 23 papers. The top three authors in terms of number of publications were Lu Donglin (48 articles), Li Jingfang (20 articles) and Xu Min (18 articles), and the top three organizations were Xinjiang Dairy Association (24 articles), Urumqi Dairy Association (18 articles), and Xinjiang Jade Kunlun Natural Food Engineering Co. (16 articles). Keyword co-occurrence and clustering show that the research hotspot focuses on chemical composition, nutritional value, etc., and the overall trend toward nutrient composition.
Conclusion Donkey milk research in China is currently in the early stages of the rise, the research hotspots are dynamic changes, and the regionalization of the cooperation network is more significant. In the future, more attention should be paid to the synergistic research on the nutritional composition of donkey milk between different regions, so as to further utilize and develop the nutritional value of donkey milk in a comprehensive way.
